KAROLY (CHARLIE) MERCSE January 28, 1932 - June 27, 2009 Surrounded by his family, Charlie aged 77 years beloved husband of Jean passed away peacefully on Saturday June 27, 2009 at the Riverview Health Centre. Charlie leaves to mourn his two sons, and four daughters Leroy (Connie), Leslie (Angie), Judy (Chuck), Joanne (Dave), Paulina and Teresa (Don), 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Charlie was born in Szatmarcseke, Hungary to Teresa and Martin Mercse. He had two brothers, two step brothers and three step sisters. He served in the Revolution war at the age of 20 and was shot in the neck. Then with his brother he made his way by swimming across the river in the middle of the night. In April 1957 he boarded the boat with Zsa Zsa Gabour and many other Hungarians, they made their way to Canada. They landed in Halifax, Charlie and his brother George then travelled to Manitoba. He worked in Dauphin, Thompson and then Winnipeg where he was a drywaller for many years. He met his wife Jean and five children in 1964 and had one daughter Teresa in 1966 that completed the family. He loved having a big family and worked very hard to provide for them. He enjoyed letting the grandchildren do whatever they wanted even though he knew it wasn't the right thing to do. His joy was watching the grandchildren play sports, then get married and start their own families. The great- grandchildren brought him joy and loved to have them over for a visit to play and watch hockey. He loved to fish and was so proud when he caught his master walleye and had it mounted for the wall. He'll be greatly missed. Memorial service will be held at Mountain Andrews All Nations Seventh Day Adventist Church, 377 Andrews St. at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday July 2, 2009. Many thanks to all the staff on the Palliative ward at Riverview Health Centre. Donations can be made to Riverview Health Centre Foundation.
