STELLA JOHNSON (nee WINIARZ) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, baba, sister and aunt on Sunday, June 28, 2009. Mom passed away surrounded by her family at Concordia Hospital at the age of 92. Stella was predeceased by her parents John (1973), Katherine (nee Lizakowski) (1965), brothers Frank, John, Walter, Stanley, Peter and Joseph, and sisters Agnes and Mary. Stella is survived by her daughter Vicki, son Fred (Daphne), granddaughter Holly and grandson Randell; sisters Janet (Don) Normand, Kay Sulyma and Adeline (Robert) Babiak, also several nieces and nephews. Stella was born in Melrose, MB on July 26, 1916. She came to Winnipeg and was employed with Northwest, Rumfords, Whitehall and lastly the Health Sciences Centre laundry as supervisor. She was a hardworking, kind and gentle lady. Upon retiring she became involved playing Bingo at her club and babysat her grandchildren occasionally. She and her lady friends celebrated their birthdays with tea parties at their homes. She was famous for her cheesecakes, lemon pies and buttermilk biscuits. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff in N1 North at Concordia Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion. In keeping with Stella's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street with Father Maciej Pajak OMI officiating.
