Julia was born in Kreuzburg, better known as Fraserwood in 1922 and grew up in the Willow Creek area. She was involved in many functions and activities throughout the years and churches such as Sacred Heart Gimli, Komarno Church and St. Peter and Paul Church in Winnipeg Beach. Mom loved to sing at services with the choir and helped in the perogy making. She was always ready to help and participate. She belonged to the New Horizons and was a member of the Winnipeg Beach Legion #61. She loved to sing and play with the bands, Wesley and His Harmony Kings which was made up of Uncle Frank, Wesley her brother and Stan her husband and with her brother Joe in various bands he was with, or just listening to music especially the Ukrainian station CKJS and she and dad would play at many celebrations or homes of family and friends making a joyous occasion for all. She loved to dance with Dad at celebrations and were as smooth as glass on the floor together. Mom used to teach dancing at the first Happy Thought School to students there for Ukrainian Dance, Drills and Square Dancing. In her early years, she worked for Mr. Sloan in their home as a cleaner, Mr. Gorbach's Restaurant Little Dutch Mill as a waitress, catering for North Star Inn and Holiday Inn. Mom was blessed with the talent of many arts and crafts, such as crocheting, embroidery, knitting and cross stitching. Many people were given these gifts of her talents and many slippers are worn by the children and family given to them for Christmas from Mom. Mom was also an excellent cook and at harvest season, dilling and jams, our tongues hung out for, and her perogies. Mom was a gracious hostess and nobody left their home without lunch, supper or snacks. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of ICU and Palliative Care of the Gimli Community Health Center and to Dr. R.C. Patel for all the years of care for her.
