Born: Sep 25, 1923
Date of Passing: Jun 28, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER STEFANYSHYN September 25, 1923 - June 28, 2009 Peter passed away peacefully on June 28, 2009 at Donwood Manor in Winnipeg, after a long and lengthy struggle with his health. Peter was born on Henderson Highway in Narol, Manitoba, son of the late Michael and Anne Stefanyshyn, and he lived his life in the Winnipeg area. For 40 years he worked as a baker for the T. Eaton Company. Pa enjoyed his cottages at the lake, especially fishing with his family, playing cards with friends, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He always had a smile for everyone at the end of the day, even if you had thrown the anchor into the water without tying it on, or if your line tangled in the motor or caught a rock. Peter loved to curl and was especially proud of his 8-ender. In 1949 he married Jean Kenke and she lovingly took care of him for the past 20 years as his health failed. Her devotion is an inspiration to his children: son Richard (Allison) and grandchildren, Michael, Kelly and Deanna; and daughter Janice Nicklin (John) and granddaughter Meghan. He was just six weeks short of experiencing his first great-grandchild and four months short of his 60th wedding anniversary. He was predeceased by his brother Walter and sister Margaret. Peter was a kind and gentle man. He rarely raised his voice and his witty and sly sense of humour kept us all smiling. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A private cremation and service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined, and we ask that you donate to The Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
