FREDRICK EDWARD MARTIN December 11, 1930 - June 29, 2009 Fred was born on December 11, 1930 to Lydia and John Fredrick Martin. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine. He is survived by his four children Wayne; Edmonton, AB (Barbara); Robert (Colleen); Arlene, Darryl; Burnaby, BC (Sharon); grandchildren Kelly Olson (Jason); Lisa Goudreau (Ed), Lindsay; and six great-grandchildren. Fred also leaves behind his brothers Ted (Surprise, AZ) and Walter. Missing his hand at the bedside will be Tieko, a puppy he loved very much. Fred grew up in the North End of Winnipeg. He was a free spirit in his younger years, taking the city by storm on his Harley. The place for hanging out back then was Slims Restaurant. It was at a bowling alley where he met the young woman who would become his lifelong partner. The relationship they had was one that we can only hope to capture and repeat. They raised their family in St. Vital. Fred inherited his father's skill of carpentry, making many fine pieces of woodwork. He was employed at the CP Railway for almost 35 years retiring at 55 years of age. This early retirement gave Fred and Lorraine the opportunity to travel and visit relatives in places such as Alberta, BC, North Carolina, as well as fun excursions to Las Vegas, and winter getaways in Arizona. Both Fred and Lorraine truly enjoyed a surprise cruise to the Caribbean for their 50th wedding anniversary. Right to the very end Fred treasured our company and love, even playing baseball with his great-granddaughters in the weeks before his passing. Cremation has taken place and there will be no service, as a private family gathering will be held at a later date. Donations in Fred's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
