OLGA WOOD (nee YAREMCHUK) With heavy hearts, the family of Olga Wood (nee Yaremchuk) announces the sudden passing of our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Poseidon Care Centre, where she recently moved from The Westhaven, at the age of 87 years. Remaining to forever cherish Olga's memory are her second husband of 15 years James (Jimmy) Wood; her daughter Adele (Ken) Duguid of Winnipeg; their sons Rob (Paula) Duguid of Regina, SK; Bryan (Sheila) Duguid of Calgary, AB; Paul Dugsin of London, ON, son Ted (Jeannette) Markus of Saskatoon, SK and their sons, Todd (Carla) Markus, of Nipawin, SK; Jonathon (Jenny Walters) Markus as well as 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband of 49 years, Marion (Mike) Markus in 1989. Mom was born on October 12, 1921 in Winnipeg to William and Mary Yaremchuk, she was the third born of five children. In 1939, Olga met Mike; they married on the 25th of November of that year. Immediately after their marriage, Olga and Mike moved to Red Lake, ON where Mike worked in a gold mine. They returned to Winnipeg a year later, to raise their family. Mom had many employers during her lifetime, the longest being with the T. Eaton Co. In 1993 Olga married Jimmy and during her remaining years they enjoyed travelling to various destinations in the USA, as well as spending many winters in Hawaii and cruising the Caribbean and Mediterranean. Mom enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and was a great cook. She was the matriarch of the family; celebrating special occasions, holidays and birthdays was a way for her to keep family close. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 4th, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Ave., with Rev. Fr. Gerald Langevin, presiding. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and the residents of The Westhaven for their care and friendship, during the time that Mom and Jimmy resided there, as well as, to the staff at The Poseidon Care Centre, during Mom's brief stay there. Special thanks to Dr. McTaggart, Katherine Cameron and the Home Care Staff that assisted Mom and our family over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to a charity of their choice. Email condolences may be sent to wfc2157@mts.net
