BRENDA BALFOUR SHULMAN (nee MUIR) It is with deep regret and tremendous sadness the family announces the sudden and tragic passing of Brenda Balfour Shulman (nee Muir) at 74 years of age. Mom leaves to mourn her daughters Cindy (Trevor) Davies of Sioux Lookout, Sandra (Sanel Jususovic) Shulman of Winnipeg, her grand-children Hartley and Colton Davies, her brother Tom (Connie) Muir of Market Drayton, England, her uncle Matt Muir and aunt Jessie Muir both of Glasgow, Scotland. She also leaves behind her great friends Tom and Petal Connell of London, England, Ann and Gary Miner, Jessie and Joe Rosdobutko all of Kenora and other numerous family and friends too many to mention. Mom was predeceased by her parents John and Janet Muir, and six years to the day her granddaughter Cailee Davies. Mom was born April 12, 1935 in Motherwell, Scotland, where she grew up and then moved to London, England to train as a registered nurse, than moved to Kenora around 1969 where she worked as a nurse at the Lake of the Woods Hospital on the children’s ward. She then met and married John Shulman. Brenda was involved in many activities and volunteer groups including but not limited to the Kenora Police Services Board, Lions Club, Elks Royal Purple, U.C.W., United Church Choir, G-Clef Choir and Club Day Away. Mom organized and started the first neighbourhood watch in Kenora, she also started the Hip Hip Hooray. Mom sponsored unfortunate children through World Vision, and donated and volunteered countless hours for many other organizations and charities. Mom loved and was well loved by everyone she knew. She will be remembered best for helping others, always smiling, doing puzzles, going for long walks especially in the rain, and talking about her family especially her grandchildren whom she was always overjoyed to see and spend her time with. A Celebration of Mom’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday July 4, 2009 at Knox United Church in Kenora, Ontario. In honour of Brenda’s memory the family asks that donations be made to either the Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.mem.com Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Centre entrusted with arrangements.
