JOYCE (JOY) MACCHARLES It is with profound sadness, love and fondest memories that we share with you the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister on July 1, 2009. Joyce passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the St. Boniface Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her wonderful husband Bill (2001). Joyce is survived by her three children, son Rod (Marg), daughters Linda (Shane) and Brenda (David); grandchildren Lindsay, Kendal, Lucas, Liam, Alyssa, Kevin; great-grandchildren Ivy and Kaleyha; her brother Ted (Karen) and nephews Glen (Penny) and Brian. Joyce was born on January 26, 1928 and lived a blessed and fulfilling life in Winnipeg. After graduating from Kelvin High School she worked for Great West Life until her marriage to Bill in 1949. While raising her three children she gave much of her time to her community and church, but her family was always her first priority. Every summer was spent at the family cottage at Jessica Lake where life long friendships were made. Joyce enjoyed all kinds of outdoor activities with family and friends including swimming and skiing. She had a passion for bridge and spent many happy hours with her bridge gals right until the time of her passing. Joyce and Bill shared 14 loving years of retirement together and when they were not at Jessica Lake, they were visiting family in northern Manitoba or Alberta delighting in their role of devoted grandparents. In 1987 they fulfilled a lifelong dream of traveling to Australia. Joyce demonstrated a strong sense of resiliency after Bill's sudden passing and was extremely proud of her independence. Her positive outlook on life, strong faith, and deep devotion to her family and friends were admired by all those who knew her. Grandma Mac will be sadly missed, but her loving spirit will live on through all of us. The family would like to thank Ted and Karen for all their love, kindness and support of Joyce especially since Bill's passing. Also thanks to her many cherished friends who enriched Mom's life greatly. At Joyce's request, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Avenue at the corner of Mulvey Ave. and Harrow Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
