Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN P. SMITH Kathleen passed away peacefully on July 2, 2009 at the Misericordia Health Centre at the age of 89 years. Kathleen was born on March 10, 1920 at the Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg. She is survived by her son Kenneth John (Suzanne) of Vancouver, brother-in-law Jack of Qualicum Beach, sister-in-law Marion of Guelph, Ontario and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband James Allan in 2005. She was the eldest daughter of the late John and Julia Clarke. Kay graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She did public health work in Deloraine, Manitoba for two years following graduation, then general duty nursing in Whitehorse, YT. for a number of years. Kay and Jim were married in 1946 in the Old Log Church in Whitehorse. They returned to Manitoba in 1956 and took up residence in St. James. Following Jim's retirement in 1978, Jim and Kay spent many years traveling to all areas of North America as well as overseas. Kay was a longtime member of Deer Lodge United Church, and subsequently Sturgeon Creek United Church. She was associated with the Grace Hospital Auxiliary for 20 years. Kay also worked part time at Sears and made many friends during those years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6 or a charity of your choice.
