HELEN WEIK (KOBLUN) Surrounded by her family, Mom passed away peacefully on July 1, 2009 at the Arborg Hospital. Mom was born July 27, 1913 in Hayek, MB. She was one of thirteen children and grew up on the family farm where she lived until she married Charles Weik on November 24, 1935. Together they bought land, working hard to clear it and build a beautiful farm for their family. They raised nine children on the farm, retiring to town in December 1990. To Mom, family was everything. She would have moved heaven and earth to help her kids . Her grandchildren looked forward to visits at Grandma and Grandpa's house where each one felt as though they were the favourite. The many hours dedicated to knitting, rug making and sewing, along with cooking, gardening and preserving were all done with the greatest of love for her family. This generosity was extended well beyond family to her neighbours and friends. Mom loved her flower gardens and most of all she truly appreciated the simple things in life. No one ever came to her house without enjoying a full course meal or at least some delicious home baking. Mom is survived by four sons: Herman, Ronnie (Sharon), Albert (Barb), Raymond (Mavis); three daughters: Ruth Deneka, Judy (Sherman) Fraser, Donna (Leslie) Gislason; 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Marge Koblun, Margaret Koblun, Margaret Dixon, Elsie (John) Timchishen, Kay Motz and Lee Drabik; brother-in-law William (Erica) Weik, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Charles, her husband of nearly 73 years on October 26, 2008; son Frederick; daughter Deanna and daughter-in-law Ellen. She was also predeceased by her parents Herman and Amelia Koblun and all of her siblings. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the residents and staff at the Arborg Assisted Living; to Dr. Beukes and all staff at the Arborg Hospital; to the homecare workers and to Pastor Bruce for their friendship, love and care. A private interment for both Mom and Dad has taken place at the Homer Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Box 160, Arborg, MB, R0C 0A0. YOUR WORK HERE IS DONE, REST IN PEACE MOM. WE LOVE YOU Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
