GORDON DAVID BERG December 1, 1956 July 4, 2009 It is with deep sadness and great sorrow that the family of Gordon David Berg, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2009 at the Health Sciences Centre after a short illness from Mesothelioma Cancer at 52 years young. His memory will be cherished by Kelly, his wife of 20 years; sons, Brandyn (Julie) and Derek (special friend Lynnzy); best friend, Jerry and Angela Munch; sisters Herta Derksen, Elizabeth (Peter) Bueckert (Whittier, CA) and Dianna (Robert) Watts; brothers-in-law Hans Czechan (Lübeck, Germany) and Randy (Cathy) Hawrylyshen; sisters-in-law Lisa Hawrylyshen (Ken Sitko) and Angela Bohun (Joey); father-in-law, Maurice Hawrylyshen (Beverley Wozny); mother-in-law Betty Slyziuk; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gordon was predeceased by his father Jacob Berg; mother Susanna Berg; sister Lori Czechan, and brother-in-law Henry Derksen. Gordon was born in Winnipeg on December 1, 1956. He graduated from Kildonan East Secondary School in 1974 with a Piping Trades certificate and worked and obtained his ticket in the plumbing industry with companies, Derksen Plumbing, Spruce Mechanical, AJ's Plumbing and for the past 18 years, at Health Sciences Centre as Plumbing Supervisor Maintenance Services. He was born and raised in Winnipeg to Susanna and Jacob Berg. He fast became the provider when his father passed away while he was only 16. At the age of 19, he married Karyn Kirsch and had one son, Brandyn. Changes happen in life and they parted ways but remained friends. In 1987, he met Kelly and they were married in Las Vegas the following year. They have one son, Derek. Gordon was well-respected and appreciated a good laugh. He went out of his way to make everyone feel special. He was committed to excellence in all things he did. Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Gordon's life will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Church at 1131 Roch Street. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation in his memory to CancerCare Manitoba (Mesothelioma Research). Private interment will take place at a future date at Glen Eden, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul.
