Today, thinking of the past, suddenly the name Rens Renooij came to my mind. Typing it in Google and learning that he was born in 1930 in Haarlem, the Netherlands and emigrated with his family in 1948, I thought it must have been the boy living next to my aunt and uncle, the family Kip. The address being Ben Viljoenstraat 7 zw, Haarlem. We only knew each other slightly but I never forgot him totally because he used to say to my aunt and uncle that later on he would marry me. And me thinking: well, we'll see. Then one day he and his family were gone. And now I come to think of it, he wrote in my album of verses. On january the 29th 1944 he wrote: Een album is een aardig ding, En ieder schrijft er maar wat in, De ene dit en de andere dat, En daarom schrijf ik ook maar wat. Hond Poes Kat, Ellie is een schat. So far my little anecdote. From the obituary I learned he was a good man like the thirteen years old boy already promised to be. - Posted by: Ellen (Elly) Toornend (my aunt's and uncle's neighbour in Haarlem, the Netherlands) on: Aug 06, 2013
