DAVID ELI SODOMSKY It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of David Sodomsky on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Concordia Hospital. David was born to Sarah and Moses Sodomsky in Winnipeg on November 3, 1931, the youngest of six children. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years Cecile. Proud father to Bill (Cathy), Moses (Julie), Darlene (Michael), Evelyne (Ed), Sean (Connie). A cherished group of grandchildren, Aaron, Lauren, Jordan, Matthew, Sarah, Matthew, Daniel, Amy, Josh, Sarah Hart, Noah and Ethan. David is also survived by his sister Roslyn and brother-in-law Norman Shiffman of California. As a young man, David was an exceptional athlete, excelling in soccer and baseball. He was awarded the Flying A distinction, the top athletic award, during his time at St. John's High School. In his adult years he was a perennial recipient of awards and trophies in both five and ten pin bowling. Upon graduation, David joined his cousin Barnett in the wholesale jewelry business. His travels and experiences during this time served as the basis of many stories he often shared with his family. In the fifties he joined the family business, Western Asbestos Ltd., and over thirty five years progressed from basic office duties to internal accountant. David's contribution to the family firm was one of the reasons for the company's long standing success. His final working years were in automobile sales of which he once again achieved great success. David was an active member of the Hebrew Fraternal Lodge and the Montefiore Club. In addition to his executive duties in each organization, he enjoyed the camaraderie of his close friends, the challenge of a good card game, and the smoke of a big cigar. Over the years, he and Cecile made many visits to Las Vegas, their favourite vacation destination. Finally, David will be remembered for his kind heart, exceptional honesty, and his unwavering integrity. He was the quintessential good guy. Interment was held at the B'Nai Abraham Cemetery on June 1, 2009. Donations for those wishing, may be made to the Kidney Foundation on behalf of David E. Sodomsky.
