Date of Passing: Jul 04, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONID MOLODOSHANIN (LEO MOL) Peacefully, on July 4, 2009 at the Taché Centre, surrounded by family and friends, Leo Mol aged 94 years, beloved husband of Margaret, passed away. Leo was born in 1915 in the village of Polonne, Ukraine. He attended the Leningrad Academy of Arts during the 1930's where his talents as a painter and sculptor were recognized and fostered. Leo and his wife Margaret emigrated to Canada in 1948 and came to Winnipeg the following year. From ceramics to painting to stained glass windows and sculptures, his work became known and recognized both nationally and internationally. Leo was passionate about art and devoted his life to sharing his knowledge and giftedness with all whom he contacted. He was Manitoba's best-known sculptor, but also deeply loved and respected by those who came to know him. The placement of his work in the Vatican Museum of Modern Art and the establishment of the Leo Mol Sculptor Garden were two things which gave him the greatest satisfaction. The Leo Mol Sculptor Garden is home to over 300 pieces of work, enriching the lives of Manitobans and the many visitors to this unique setting. It is with this in mind that you are invited to join in a celebration of the life of Leo Mol at the Leo Mol Sculptor Garden in Assiniboine Park at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Parking will be available in the East Gate lot. Standing only please bring a lawn chair.
