Date of Passing: Jul 06, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONARD JULIUS KLAUSE 1924 - 2009 It is with sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of my husband, father and grandfather after a courageous battle with cancer on July 6, 2009 at the Concordia Hospital. Leonard was predeceased by his parents Julius (1952), and Martha (Schiewe) Klause DeMeyere (1957) and brother Henry (September 14, 2007). He will be missed by his wife Olga of 55 years, sons James (Darlene), and Ernest, grandsons Darryl (Jennifer / Brianna), and Justin. He will also be missed by his sister Edna (Peter) Huesmann of Rutherford, New Jersey. In the United States, he will be fondly remembered by his DeMeyere sisters and brothers: Stanley (Lois) from MN, Ida Nelson from MN, Frieda (John) Quicker from FL, Russell (Clarice) from ND, Arthur (Bonnie) from MN, Violet Anderson from MN, Margaret (Larry) Ulrich from MN, Roselind (Clyde) Rosten from FL, Caroline (Arden) Bohach from MN and Susan (Ron) Carlson from CO and their families. Len will also be missed by many cousins, close friends and neighbours. Len was born in Transcona on September 14, 1924. He grew up with his father and brother and had a hard but adventurous childhood. After leaving school, he worked for a short time then joined the Navy in 1944 and saw the world until his discharge in 1952. Len worked for 33 years at CNR in the stores department, then as an electrical apprentice and finally as a carman until his retirement in 1985. He spent many years building their cabin at Hillside Beach. After he retired, he turned the cottage into a year round home. Dad was a very kind, down-to-earth, humble person often putting others' needs ahead of his own. He was very personable and made friends easily. Dad was always good with his hands; he could fix pretty much anything. But, like his father and brother, Dad was more of a builder than a toy maker. When Dad was in his early sixties, through the effort of his sister Edna, he finally made DeMeyere part of his family. In the ensuing years he went to many reunions in the United States. To finally be part of this large, loving family brought Dad so much happiness and peace. The family thanks the staff on 3W at Concordia Hospital for their care, devotion and compassion shown to Dad during his short stay. We also thank the many friends and neighbours for your thoughts, prayers and support. A private family service will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations in Leonard's name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Foundation. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
