Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD THIESSEN Edward Thiessen passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 9, 2009 at the age of 73. Loving father to Reginald (Margurite) and Lyle, grandfather to Kelsey. Ed was the sixth child born to the late Peter D. and Katharina Thiessen on March 12, 1936 in Steinbach, MB. He married Norma Unger on July 12, 1961. He received his Bachelor of Education in 1960 and retired from teaching in 1994. Ed inspired students in the rural communities of Ekron, Woolwich, Grunthal, Sinclair and Kola, MB. Upon retiring Ed and son Lyle moved to Winnipeg. Ed is survived by sister Mary (Mike) Brelis, and brothers John (Doris), Henry (Li) and Walter (Hildegard), and sister-in-law Shirley Thiessen. Many nieces, nephews and extended family will miss Ed. He was predeceased by his wife, parents, brother Peter and sister Betty. The family wishes to extend our special thanks to the doctors and nurses of St. Boniface Hospital, Cardiac and Geriatric Units, and all friends and family who have shown so much support during this time. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road, with viewing on Tuesday, July 14 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, and also prior to the service. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date in Kola Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba, available at the service. A teacher at heart- Anything worth doing, is worth doing well. Be at peace Ed, no one is more deserving. If one is measured by the things they do for people in life, you always came through for everyone. We will miss your kind soul.
