MARY MARLENE FITZMAURICE (nee POPIUK) September 15, 1947 - July 11, 2009 . It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Marlene Fitzmaurice on July 11, 2009 at the age of 61 years. She was predeceased by her parents Sophie Shewchuk and Mike Popiuk. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons Sean and Ryan (Holly), and her four siblings Nancy (Mervin), Sharon (Murray), Les (Cec), and Gerry (Rhonda). Born and raised in Melville, Saskatchewan, Marlene spent a few years working in Regina before settling in Winnipeg, where she took joy in raising her family. Marlene was a loving mother who dedicated herself entirely to raising and caring for children, not only her own sons, but the countless other children who attended her daycare throughout the years. Those who had the privilege of knowing her benefitted greatly from her guidance and caring nature. Her creativity was evident in the many crafts she made, along with the unique and beautiful quilts she loved to sew. Marlene was very intelligent and loved to do puzzle books, read novels, and watch her favourite news programs. She was a selfless, giving woman and always put the needs of others before her own. She was taken from us far too soon. Mom, we love you and will remember you forever. A celebration of Marlene's life will be held on Saturday, July 18 at 9:00 a.m. in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel (211 Regent Avenue West), interment to follow at St. Vital Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marlene's name to The Muscular Dystrophy Foundation of Canada.
