BARBARA VAN WAGENINGEN Dartmouth, Nova Scotia Born in Winnipeg, Barbara passed away in the VG Site, QEII on July 12, 2009, with her son Darren at her side. She was 57 years old. She is survived by her husband, Jacob, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; sons, Darren, San Jose, California, and Michael (Deanne), Sackville, Nova Scotia; sister, Judy Mathieson (Kriss), Winnipeg; nephews, Matthew and Patrick, Winnipeg; uncle, Joe Sawtus, Winnipeg, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Hailey and Emily (who will greatly miss their Grandma Timbits ), San Jose, California. Barb worked initially as a school teacher in Winnipeg Beach then spent the next ten years taking care of her children, and after arriving in Dartmouth spent much of her working life in retail. Always unselfish and thoughtful, Barb committed her most selfless act near the end when she valiantly held on until her son Michael was married to Deanne on July 10. She loved camping, walking along the Halifax waterfront, and caring for all her plants and gardens. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the urology staff at the VG Site for the extraordinary care that was given, and also to Tammy Jones, Lake Echo, Nova Scotia, for attending to her while the family was away in Newfoundland for the wedding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, Parkinson's Society of Canada, Manitoba Region, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
