DR. KENNETH GERRARD LOEWEN In loving memory of Dr. Ken, who passed away peacefully in Ottawa, Ontario with his beloved wife and best friend, Lorrie at his side, under the care of his Buddhist spiritual guide Kelsang Oden and the wonderful staff of the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Dear son of Anne and the late Jacob Loewen, brother to Judy Loewen and Maureen Lamboo (nee Loewen), brother-in-law to Joe Lamboo, uncle to Heather and Melissa and beloved nephew of Auntie Tina, Auntie Eileen, Uncle George and Aunt Trudy and cousin to Cathy. Dr. Ken coped courageously with a lengthy disabling illness and all the while continued to spread love, share knowledge and celebrate life. Friends are invited to bring a favourite memory of Dr. Ken to share at the Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, at Furby, Winnipeg, MB, 204-783-7211, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to your choice of; Plan Canada; The Alzheimer s Society; The Ottawa Humane Society; The Kidney Foundation of Canada; The Liver Foundation; the Pastoral Care Services of the Ottawa Hospital, c/o Chaplain Catherine Howe; The Joyful Land Buddhist Centre; The Friends of the Central Experimental Farm; the Swallow Caye Wildlife Sanctuary, Caye Caulker, c/o Annie Seashore and Chocolate Heridia, Belize, Central America; the Kekoldi Preserve of The Bri Bri People of Costa Rica, who make air for the world; the International Association of Firefighters; the Vancouver Aquarium; the National Arts Centre; the National Gallery Of Canada, the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, the Nikka Yukko Friendship Gardens of Lethbridge, the Ottawa, Winnipeg or Lethbridge Public Library (all library donations in the memory of the late Aunt Mary Barchuk) who was a teacher and humanitarian whose proud accomplishment was teaching people to read; the Lethbridge Musical Theatre, the Lethbridge Symphony, the Caye Caulker Health Facility; the Karl Heushner Memorial Hospital or the David Suzuki Foundation.
