BERNICE MARIE GERTRUDE SIMOENS (nee DEGAGNE) December 5, 1932 - July 14, 2009 Following a brief illness while living with end stage Alzheimer disease, Bernice passed away at Riverview Health Centre where she has resided since 2005. Bernice was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend Dennis in 2006. Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Linda (Philippe); Alan (Eileen) and John (Marnie); seven grandchildren: Sean, Dana, Jacob, Kevin, Shane, Tia and Cole; a brother Ron (Nancy); sister-in-law Joan (Barry) and brother-in-law Ron (Irene). Bernice was born in St. Boniface and lived there her entire life. She and Dennis married in 1954 and raised their children there. Bernice was a loving mother and wife who devoted much of her time to her family. She enjoyed travelling with Dennis extensively following his retirement. In earlier years she and Dennis packed up the car and the kids every summer and camped throughout North America. Mom was a beautiful artist who painted in her spare time and loved to decorate her home with fine items. She always wore a smile even as dementia robbed her of all else. One of her last conversations with Dennis before he died; We sure had fun, didn't we Dennis ? ... We sure did Bernice, we sure did . A special thank you to all the staff on CD2 at Riverview Health Centre, especially nurses Pia, Kathy and Susan for being so compassionate and caring to Mom in her final hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernice's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 In keeping with Bernice's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Monday, July 20 at 10:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Linda, Alan and John, It is with sincere regret that your mother Bernice passed away at such a young age. I say that because she was 9 months youger than I. We had some wonderful teenage years together and grand memories that we enjoyed and shared. I know she was a good mother to you all and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She will be missed dearly. Dolores Williams (nee Cloutier) - Posted by: Dolores Williams (Friend) on: Jul 20, 2009
