GEORGE AITKEN WALKER After a lengthy and difficult struggle with Alzheimer's disease, the family of George Walker is saddened to announce his passing on July 18, 2009 at the Victoria General Hospital. Beloved husband of Winnifred Walker, his wife of 55 years, he is survived by three sons, Stephen (Lisa), Philip (Janice) of Calgary, Michael of Winnipeg as well as four grandchildren, Taryn, Alison, Jesse and Kirsten. George was born in Winnipeg on September 21, 1923. He served in the RCAF in the latter stages of the Second World War, after leaving the service he went on to attend the University of Manitoba, where he graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical). He began his professional career with Westinghouse Canada in Thunder Bay, Ontario before returning to Winnipeg in 196l to begin a successful career with Investors Group. In l97l he realized a lifelong dream, becoming a registered representative with James Richardson and Sons where he retired in 1988. Throughout his retirement, George continued to actively follow the financial markets, and enjoyed many leisurely strolls with his beloved and ever faithful Labrador retrievers as well as many road trips throughout Canada and the United States. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Friday, July 24 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 10 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2.
