PHILIP RICHARD EGER Philip (Phil) Eger departed this world on July 18, 2009 at the age of 79 years to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Phil was predeceased by his wife Eleanor, to whom he was married 53 years, his brothers Earl and Ken Eger, his sister Dorothy Paquin and his sister-in-law Fran Marshall. Phil is survived by his son Douglas (Rae) parents of Graham, Scott and Alec of Edmonton; his daughter Leslie (Stan Kurtas) parents of John (Krisanne) and Matthew; and his son Gerald (Deanna) parents of Ryan and Kyla of Toronto. Phil was born in Winnipeg to parents Fred and Amalia Eger (nee Mohr) on November 18, 1929 and lived his entire life in Winnipeg. He worked at Canadian National Railways for his whole career until his retirement in 1989 after 42 years and enjoyed talking about railroading. Phil and Eleanor loved family immensely and travelled often to visit his sister-in-law, Marilyn, and brother-in-law, Dennis, in Minneapolis. Above all Phil and Eleanor lived for their seven grandchildren and were generous with their time taking all the grandkids on regular trips to the toy store and the park and for haircuts at the local barbershop. Everyone loved Phil for his generosity and fun-loving easy going nature. Phil along with Eleanor were active in church serving in many capacities and making many friends at First Lutheran Church. Phil will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Middlechurch Home in West St. Paul for the exceptional care that Phil received over the past year and a half while he was a resident there. The funeral will take place on Thursday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church at 580 Victor Street with a reception to follow. A private interment will take place later that day. Flowers are respectfully declined; donations in Phil's name may be made to First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3G 1R2. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Again I am saddened to see the passing of a great man. My sons picked dandelions walking beind him. He was always so kind and patient when the noise of my 3 boys carried over the fence. I will remember Phil and Eleanor fondly for all my life. - Posted by: Angele Banman (Previous Neighbor) on: Jun 16, 2016
