WILLIAM (BILL) LEO HERNER It is with deep regret that we announce the death of William (Bill) Leo Herner on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 82 years. Remaining to forever cherish Bill's memory are his wife Irene; daughter Patti (Brad) Silverman of Phoenix; son Randy (Chris) Herner of Petersfield and his four grandchildren that he lived for, Brandi (of Phoenix), Brett (of Austin, Texas) Silverman, Nathan and Salina Herner (of Petersfield); sisters Tillie Heather, Adeline Backman and Fran Campbell. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Christina; sisters Helen, Kay and Rose; brothers John, Leo, Pete and Joe. Bill was born on September 25, 1926 in Kerrobert, SK. The family moved to Lundar in 1939, where he attended school until he enlisted in the Navy at 17 and one half years, where he served as a visual signalman overseas for 19 months. After the war, Bill enrolled in Business College. He later married the love of his life Irene in 1950, and spent his working years in sales for the trucking industry and ended up as president of White Truck Sales, until his retirement. Bill belonged to the Masonic Capital Lodge and the Khartum Shrine Orchestra in which he was a dedicated fundraiser in his retirement years. He enjoyed his family, football, gardening and cottage life at Petersfield. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have lost one of their biggest fans, as he was a season ticket holder for over 50 years, and never missed a game. Bill's funeral service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2009 in Thomson In The Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd, at 2:00 p.m., with Father Vince Herner, presider. The family would like to send a special thanks to Greg and Belinda Herner for their care and compassion at St. Boniface Hospital. The support of friends and family over the last few months has been greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shrine Children's Transportation Fund, Khartum House, 1155 Wilkes Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3P 1B9.
