JOHN (JACK) STEWART MARPLES 1915 - 2009 It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of John Marples at the age of 93 on July 23, 2009. Jack passed away peacefully with his family at his side at the Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock. Jack is survived by his two daughters Marilyn and Carol, son-in-law Harlan, granddaughter Tracy and her husband Shane and three loving great-grandchildren, Gage, Nicholas and Dustin, his sister-in-law Winnifred Grey-Noble and his extended family Janis Denney and her husband from Salmon Arm. Jack grew up in Winnipeg attending and graduating from St. John's High School. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1942 until 1943 as an Army Sergeant followed with the Canadian Air Force from 1943 until 1945 as a Pilot Officer and Aircraft Gunner. He later entered the sales team for Carnation Foods and Swifts Meat Packers where he met and married his beloved wife Marjorie Elizabeth Marples (Side) for 45 years. He then joined Domtar Inc. (Sifto Salt Division) for 33 years completing assignments in Toronto, Calgary and Winnipeg until his retirement in 1981. Jack belonged to the Fidelity Lodge #146 A.F.A.M. and was also a director for seven years with North West Commercial Travellers Association. He enjoyed life and took the family on road trips to Lac du Bonnet, Kenora, Lake of the Woods and Sandy Beach. He loved to spend his time camping, fishing, was an avid golfer, taking cruises and loved football fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Jack had an easy way with people accumulating many friends along the way and he will be remembered fondly by his friends. Above all he was a very loving, generous, devoted, caring man to his family. We love you and will always miss you. The family wishes to express sincere thanks for the excellent care from doctors, nurses at the ICU at Peach Arch Hospital and especially very grateful to the staff and residents at The Pacifica Resort Retirement Living quarters in Surrey for their thoughtfulness where he resided for the past eight weeks. As per Jack's wishes, there will be no funeral service held but a private burial in Winnipeg at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations if anyone so wishes can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in their local area in his name.
