FJOLA J. (VIOLET) MAILMAN (nee JOHNSON) (ERLENDSON) Peacefully, on Sunday, July 26, 2009, at the Dr. Gendreau Memorial Personal Care Home in Ste. Rose du Lac, Fjola J. (Violet) Mailman passed away at the age of 93 years. Violet was born on August 31, 1915 at Beaver Dam, Manitoba, to Steini and Margaret Johnson (nee Helgason). She moved with her family at a young age to Lonely Lake and received her education at the Larkspur School. Violet grew up in a large family and had a twin sister Olive with whom she was very close. She married Marsi Erlendson on March 25, 1937. They farmed and ranched at Reykjavik and had four children Steini, Christopher, Sylvia and Valerie. After selling the ranch, Violet and her family resided in several places. They owned hotels in St. Laurent and Gladstone until Marsi's passing in 1967. Violet met Walter Mailman and they were married in 1968. They lived at Asham Point where they ranched. Upon retirement, they moved to Lake Manitoba Narrows where they ran a bed and breakfast. Violet continued in this venture after Walter's passing. As her health declined, Violet moved to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home in Ste. Rose du Lac where she resided until her passing. Violet loved people especially her family. She was a seamstress known for her mittens. She was a carpenter, a gardener, an artist and most of all, a very proud Icelander. Violet was predeceased by her husbands Marsi and Walter, her son Christopher, her granddaughter Marcia, her parents Steini and Margaret, her brothers Christopher, Stanley, Joseph, her sisters Thelma and Olive and her brother Freeman along with several brothers and sisters-in-law. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish many fond memories; her son Steini (Denise) of Eddystone, her daughters Sylvia (Ross) Dyker of Portage La Prairie, Valerie (Marcel) Clement of Ottawa, her daughter in-law Patsy Erlendson of Ste. Rose du Lac, her grandchildren Thor (Kristine), Derek (Chandra), Steina (Ken), Janice, Donald (Lynn), Fjola (Bill), Alison (Scott), Blake Spiller, Sean (Julie), Jason (Shannon), Chrissie, Tanis (Herman), Dean, along with 27 great-grandchildren, her siblings Leonard, Helgi (Blanche), Luella Finney, Grace Anderson, Freda Olafson (Gordon), Audrey (Earl) Clayton, her sisters-in-law Metta and Kathy Johnson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Funeral service for Violet will be held on Friday, July 31, at 2:00 p.m. in the Westlake Community Centre, Eddystone, Manitoba. Pastor Howard Burnie will officiate with the service concluding at the community centre. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Cremation will take place and the interment will be held at a later date in the Ste. Rose Cemetery. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in memory of Violet to a charity of one's choice. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services, Ste.
