Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILDRED JOYCE BARBER (nee SAUNDERS) Joyce passed away suddenly on July 28, 2009 at the age of 82 years. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harold Barber, and was predeceased by her only sibling, Jim Saunders. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, son Brian, wife Joyce and children Matthew (Alexis) and Gillian (Grant); son Darryl, wife Ann and children Lauren (Aaron), Heather and Kyle; daughter Bev, husband Pep and children Sean (Erin), Scott (Adelina) and Erin. She will also be dearly missed by her sister-in-law Theda Saunders, nieces Susan (Ted) and Nancy (Ted), her cousin Pearl Haas, and her many friends. Joyce was born in MacGregor, Manitoba on January 18, 1927. Following graduation from MacGregor High School and Normal School (Teachers College) in Winnipeg, she taught at several one-room school houses in rural Manitoba. On December 4, 1946, she married her lifelong partner Harold, and together they provided a loving and supportive foundation for their three children. As part of Harold's 34 year career with the Manitoba Telephone System they lived in Portage La Prairie, Gladstone, Roblin and Winnipeg. Joyce's love of teaching brought her back to the schoolroom from 1977 to 1988, working as an Educational Assistant with special needs students at Strathmillan School. Joyce found strength and friendship in her church community at Silver Heights United Church, spending many years teaching Sunday School and actively participating in the U.C.W. She will be fondly remembered by the many friends she made while living at the family residence on Carnarvan Road for almost 50 years. More recently, she enjoyed making new friendships with the residents, staff and home care providers at the Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence. Her family will always cherish the gifts she gave us, a love and respect for one's roots, a keen interest in lifelong learning, a passion for detail, and the best baking ever! A memorial service and celebration of Joyce's life will be held at Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch (Mount Royal and Ness) St. James, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2009. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heart And Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, in honour of her memory. NEIL BARDAL INC. 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
