Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID HIEBERT October 11, 1925 - July 27, 2009 After a courageous battle with cancer and a recent stroke, it is with a deep and abiding sadness that we announce the passing, with his family by his side, of David Hiebert at the age of 84. He will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by his wife Eva (having just celebrated their 60th anniversary on June 30, 2009), children Wayne (Luana), Rick (Violet) and his little princess Sandy (Jim); grandchildren Dane and Daryl Anne; surviving brothers and sisters Peter (Yolande), Jake, Andy (Betty), Anne (John) and Doris; numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents Peter and Maria; sisters Kay, Marie; brothers Ed, Bill and Johnny. David was born in Niverville, Manitoba on October 11, 1925 but his life on the farm was interrupted at the age of 17 when he volunteered to serve his country overseas. The experiences and memories of the war would continue to play a major role in Father's life even though he rarely talked openly about those years. As well as being an avid sports fan, Dad was a keen outdoorsman whose love of nature was generously shared with all, a gift that continues to flourish in his children to this day. He taught us to hunt and fish and to appreciate the beauty all around us. It was always a small bone of contention between Mom and Dad that he was a better cook than she was but when they combined their talents in the garden, a passion they shared, the results were amazing. The majority of David's professional life was spent with the C.N.R. as an engineer (hoghead) and after his last run at the age of 62 he enjoyed many years of retirement. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of both the Victoria and Misericordia Hospitals for the warm and compassionate care that they provided for our father, they were instrumental in helping to ease his journey down this difficult road. So we say goodbye to our father, friend, brother and husband, his strength, bravery and gentle nature will remain in our hearts forever. Cremation has taken place and a private family service was held. Chapel Lawn 885 - 9715
