DENISE ALICE MORRISON (nee HOWELL) Peacefully, Denise Alice Morrison, wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend, passed away on Friday July 31, 2009 at the Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Denise is lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband Bob; children Lois (Brian) and Rob (Corine); grandchildren Emilie, Lea, Connor and Quinn; mother Kathleen; brother Murray (Diane); extended family, close friends and her furry feline Tobi. Denise now joins her father George and her nephew Jonathan. Born in Drumheller, Alberta, Denise lived in Rosedale, Alberta before moving to Calgary and then on to Winnipeg at the age of three. She and her family lived in Winnipeg where she attended Nelson McIntyre High School finishing her education with secretarial school. Denise loved to dance. Denise and Bob's first dances together were in the basement of the St. Phillip's Anglican Church in St. Boniface. Marrying on June 12, 1965, they continued to dance together as husband and wife for 44 years. In 1982, Denise and Bob settled in Thompson, Manitoba where Denise started working for Human Resource Services Canada (HRSC). Thompson was a community where they enjoyed the people, the activities and the beautiful natural setting. Denise and Bob spent many years at the cabin/home they built together at Paint Lake just south of Thompson and later, after moving back to Winnipeg in 1998, the family cottage in Matlock, Manitoba. Denise loved to create - to prepare gourmet meals with Bob, her sous-chef, beside her to share with their friends and family. She loved to paint, to knit, to scrapbook. She found joy in discovering new ways to express her creative side, spending many hours looking for the right yarn, the right paper, and the right colors. She and Bob loved to travel - exploring new spaces and meeting new friends across Canada and beyond; traveling from Newfoundland to Victoria, to Montserrat, Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and all through the United States. Retiring from the Selkirk HRSC office in 2004, Denise and Bob began spending their winters with many new and old friends in Yuma, Arizona. The friends they traveled with and the ones they met along the way will always be remembered. Denise lived a life of joy, humour, and love. Her smile was welcoming to all and her laugh would light up a room. She will be remembered always. A special thank you to Dr. J. Gingrich and all of the wonderful people at both the St. Boniface Hospital CancerCare Centre and the Riverview Health Centre for the wonderful care and support they provided. A celebration of Denise's life will be held Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, the Winnipeg Humane Society or the charity of your choice. Chapel Lawn 885 - 9715

  • Dear Bob and family, I'm here in Manitoba working for the weekend and thought I'd look up my friend Denise. I'm so sorry for your loss, I had no idea. Time slips away from all of us, seems pieces at a time as life just keeps us busy. Dan and his family are in Moncton and I'm still remaining in N.S. My deepest, deepest sympathy. I also enjoyed my time with Denise and loved her laughter! Evelyn Ramsay - formerly Auffrey. - Posted by: Evelyn Ramsay (Friend from Thompson, Manitoba ) on: Apr 14, 2012
