Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVINCENZO ALLEGRO September 8, 1924 - August 2, 2009 Vincenzo died peacefully in his daughter's arms at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, August 2, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. Dad was born on September 8, 1924 in Camastra, on the Island of Sicily. The middle child of eight, he worked hard to support his parents, and siblings. In 1948 he immigrated to Belgium, where he worked seven years in the coal mines, and seven years in a steel factory. Because of the coal dust, he developed acquired silicosis of the lungs, which eventually developed into cancer. In 1960 he immigrated to Winnipeg with his wife and two children. In 1949 he met the love of his life, Josephine. They were together for 60 years. Just the other day, he told me how he had married the most beautiful woman, for life. Mom took care of dad until his last breath. He died at home surrounded by the love and serenity of his family. Dad had a great sense of humor, to his last days. He loved all people and enjoyed going to Garden City Shopping Centre for his daily cup of coffee and a chat with the guys. In the evening he loved to play Bocci until he no longer physically could, and then he went as a referee. His ability to tell funny stories and make everyone laugh was unique. Through his appreciation of nature, he spent many hours fishing and hunting, feeding the birds, being outside in the great outdoors, and his special fury friend Tobie. He had an unshakable faith in his Catholic religion, and never missed a week of Mass; he watched the service on T.V. Dad had a courageous heart and in a mining accident, he risked his life to save the life of his co-worker. Throughout his illness, he never complained. When I asked how he felt, he would always reply, good . On all our family festivities he played his harmonica, and his love of music shone through. He spent many hours on a dance floor with his wife. Dad loved many things but nothing compared to his love of his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law, three sisters, two brothers, and his beloved daughter, Graziella in 1960 who died at the age of two. To celebrate his life are his beloved wife, Josephine, son John, daughter Lina (Larry) of Gimli, son Dino (Starsha) of Niagara Falls and grandchildren, Dario Lucciola, Elisa (Alex), Liliane, Jacob, Joshua, and Faith Allegro, numerous family and friends in Belgium, Italy and Canada. A special thanks to Romano Fava and his family, for his daily visit and all their help for Mom, and Dad. Thank you for the love of all the families and friends who came to visit and help keep his moral high. Thank you to father Sam Argenziano, Dr. David Ross, his nurse Ruth and all of the devoted home care and Palliative care personal. On Wednesday, August 5, there will be a public viewing between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. in the Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, August 6 at 10:30 a.m. with a public viewing at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. Rev.
