Jake was predeceased by his parents, Katherina and Peter Hildebrand; brothers Isaac, Peter, Dick, Henry, John, Bill and George; sisters Mary and Ann; sisters-in-law Mary, Tina, Helen and Sadie; brothers-in-law Jim and Ed. Jake was born on July 30, 1922 in Halbstadt, Manitoba. In his early years he worked on the farm. He later met Erna, the love of his life, and they were married on June 24, 1951. They then moved to Winnipeg and soon started a family of their own. Jake was employed with Co-op Dairies for 29 years before retiring in 1985 at the age of 62. During his retirement, Jake and Erna spent 15 years in Mesa, Arizona, where they enjoyed spending their winter months. It is here where Dad enjoyed golfing, playing shuffleboard, and spending many good times with family and new found friends. Jake was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a very playful grandfather. He lead a Christian life, and was very proud of his family, always putting them first. We will always cherish the time we spent camping in his motorhome, which he built, and tubing and fishing on his boat. We were so fortunate to have shared some wonderful times with him. He was very young at heart and had a real zest for life, and will always be remembered for this! We were truly blessed to have him in our lives. Our family would like to extend our thanks to the staff of the Emergency and Respiratory Ward at the HSC, for their kind care in keeping Dad comfortable in his final days. A funeral service will be held to celebrate Jake's life on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg. Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jake's memory to Alzheimer Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3C 4G2 or a charity of one's choice. May your days with God in heaven be great til that day we meet again
