DEBORAH CAROL MONKMAN December 1, 1957 - July 20, 2009 On July 20, 2009 in Hay River, NT, surrounded by her family, Debbie slipped the bonds of earth and her illness to mount up with wings as eagles to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Wayne, beloved children Holly and Dane; mother Deanna; sisters Donna (Leslie) Mowatt, Cheryl (Franklin) Lea, Denise (Wilfred Selkirk), Daphne (Bruce Dudrak), and Danella VonGunten; brothers Daryl (Dawn), Danny (Janice), Richard (Jackie), Douglas (Marlene); sisters-in-law Pat (Ron) Broadhead, Mona (Eaon) Hatch, Joan (Rene) Belanger, Elaine (Bert) Saucier, Bonnie (Roy) Crowther; brothers-in-law Harold (Isabel) and Glen; numerous nieces and nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her father Edward, brother Dwight, father-in-law Hector and mother-in-law Mary. Debbie grew up at Loon Straits and attended high school in Selkirk where she met Wayne. After graduation they moved to Hay River, NT, where they resided until her passing. They were in the process of moving back to Manitoba. Debbie was very career oriented. She worked for N.T.C.L for 17 years as a marine clerk, then at the Hay River Hospital as a unit clerk, and most recently with the Hay River R.C.M.P detachment for the last five years as clerk. Debbie's children, Holly and Dane, were her greatest joy in life. She was a devoted, loving mother who took an active role in every aspect of their lives. She was their biggest fan and she took pride in all their accomplishments, big or small. She grew up with a deep-seated faith that was important in her daily life. This faith sustained her in her 10 and one-half year battle with breast cancer. She faced each hurdle with courage and determination, always keeping a positive attitude. She often lent her strength and support to others who had cancer. We will miss you Debbie, your generous spirit, compassion, fun loving nature and especially the laughter we shared. A memorial service to celebrate Debbie's life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverton Community Hall. Interment will take place at Loon Straits at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation may be made to a charity of their choice.
