SYLVIA GYLES (nee SVEINSON) March 6, 1933 - July 30, 2009 It is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Sylvia Gyles with family by her side. Sylvia was born at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, but raised and lived in Silver Bay until 1940, then moved to Spear Hill and in 1942, the family moved to Winnipeg. She had many accomplishments in her younger years, including Miss Blue Bomber in 1953 and a very busy modeling career until the late 1960's. Sylvia was very proud of her Icelandic heritage and loved to bake family favourites including Vinetarta. Sylvia is survived by her loving husband Patrick of 55 years; son Randy, wife Debbie and grandchildren Sydney and Regan; son Gerry, wife Patsy and grandchildren Patrick and Emma; son Derrick, wife Melanie and grandchildren Jessie and Aaron; daughter Gina, husband Brian and granddaughter Kiera; sister Freda; brothers Jerry and Paul; spouses and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by father Sigurdor and mother Stefania and sister Margaret. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Grace and St. Boniface Hospitals, Dr. Harris, Mark Sheppard and the Grace Hospice Staff. There will be a private family gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Hospice, 260 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, R3J 3R5.
