ANDREW PETER FILIPOWICH With great love and fond memories the family announces the peaceful passing of Andy Filipowich, age 75, on August 9, 2009 at St. Boniface Hospital. Besides his loving wife Mary, he leaves to mourn, son Robert, sister Olga Kobelka (Willie) and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Steven and Katherine, brothers John, Charlie, Joe and son William. Andy was born in Arran, SK on May 3, 1934 and moved to Pelly, SK prior to grade school and completed his education in Yorkton, SK. After a brief stay in Brandon, MB, Andy was transferred to Winnipeg while employed with Safeway in 1954. Andy and Mary were married on July 14, 1956 in Winnipeg. He changed his career and remained employed with Sunshine (Perth's) until his retirement in 1996. Mom, Dad and family enjoyed many fun-filled weekends at the family cottage. Due to renal failure, Andy required dialysis commencing the fall of 2004 thus presenting him with new daily challenges that he addressed with conviction and determination. Andy's health was further complicated after surgery to repair a broken hip (in 2007) which confined him to a wheelchair. As a result of resuscitation from cardiac arrest Andy was treated in the ICU, transferred to the Dialysis Ward and remained at St. Boniface until his peaceful passing. The family would like to thank doctors, nurses, heath care attendants and administrative staff of the St. Boniface Dialysis Unit and Ward's 4B and 5B. Special thanks to R. N. Sheri for sitting with the family at the time of his passing. Prayers will be held on Friday, August 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church with Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel officiating. Fellowship to follow after service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andy's memory to the Kidney Foundation of Manitoba. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
