LENA MARJORIE JEAN MURDOCK Sitting Brown Buffalo Woman August 6, 1927 - August 10, 2009 Peacefully on August 10, 2009, Lena Marjorie Jean Murdock passed into the spirit world to be with her Creator, our dad, brothers and loved ones who went on before her. Mom leaves to cherish her memory; sons, Ernest (Margaret), Gerald (Phyliss), Randolph (Olivia), Byron (JoAnne) and Kevin (Patricia); daughters, Faylene (Floyd) and Wanda (Simon); 30 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Anne Bird, Evelyn Myran, Betty Murdock and Gwen Merrick. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Sr.; Sons, McIvor and Keith; grandparents, Caroline and William Ross; parents, Alice Ross and Walter Kirkness Sr.; Brothers, William and Walter Jr.; Sisters, Agnes and Mary. Mom was a very strong believer in morals and values, education was a priority in her family. She was a Cree teacher in Fisher River and Peguis for many years and helped implement the Cree Dictionary in Fisher River. Mom had a Cree choir in Fisher River and traveled with her friends, Helen Ben and Gloria Muskego, they were affectionately known ad the Golden Girls . Mom was also a house mother in Teulon at the Residential School. She sat on many boards, travelled with the Chief Council to many meetings and was actively involved in the Steven's Memorial United Church. Mom was steadfast to the last days with her praying and the community will miss her prayers. Lena was a loving mother and grandmother. We will miss her smiles, laughter, prayers, guidance and love that she shared with all she met. Mom was a respected Elder in our community. Wake services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 and on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. each evening. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. All services will be held at the Steven's Memorial United Church, Fisher River, MB., Asst. Pastor John McKay officiating.
