NELLIE MAY CRANSTONE (nee GALE) It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Nellie May Cranstone on August 14, 2009 at Beausejour Hospital at the age of 95 years. Nellie is survived by her children Jack (Ruth), Shirley Carty, Betty Schweitzer (George), Doreen Emms (Bert) and Douglas (Susan); siblings Irene, William, and Dorothy, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John Henry Cranstone, daughter Joyce McFee, grandson Donald Cranstone, and her siblings Lillian, Edmund, Ethel, Kathleen, Robert, Berkley, Phyllis, and Frederick. Nellie was born in Transcona on October 12, 1913, the daughter of Elizabeth (nee McLean) and Edmund Gale. Nellie and John were married on November 14, 1934 and they were blessed by the birth of their six children. Nellie enjoyed travelling with fellow seniors on Bus tours, including trips to various casinos. She enjoyed watching soap operas and participating in sports where she won many Carpet Bowling Awards. She belonged to and volunteered her time with various organizations including Silver Threads Seniors Group and the Dugald Costume Museum. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Green Acres Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Green Acres Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations in Nellie's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of MB, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB., R3L 0K6, or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Beausejour Hospital and Oakbank Homecare as well as the residents of Kin Place for all of their care and compassion.
