KATHY MARCHAK (nee SHAWARA) July 27, 1942 August 15, 2009 Peacefully at her residence in Winnipeg, Kathy, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother succumbed to a lengthy battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her husband of 47 years, Gordon, sons Trevor and Kurt (Kristen); grandchildren Tanya, Brayden, Jessica, Michael and Wesley; sisters Sonia and Diane; in-laws Harry and Adele, Agnes; her auntie Annie and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Frank Shawara, in-laws Eileen and Frank; brothers Eddie, Stanley, Kenny and Walter; sister Junie and brothers-in-law Leonard and Adolf. Kathy was a stay at home mother working part time in her earlier years at the post office. In later years, her career directed her to a position of health care aide. She started working at the Maples Care Home where she met many wonderful people including her long time friend, Rachel. After so many years Kathy decided to move a little closer to home and work at the Luther Personal Care Home until her retirement at the age of 62. Kathy enjoyed spending her retirement at the farm in Meleb where she enjoyed many good times with her husband Gordon, family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, baba, auntie and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli with Fr. Wayne Morrissey officiating. Interment in the Park Cemetery, Meleb. Pallbearers will be Brayden, Michael, Wesley and Dale Marchak, Mark Filiba and Sandy Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tanya and Jessica Marchak, Rachel Panteluk and Pat Gottfried. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to CancerCare or the Diabetes Association. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli in care of arrangements.
