MANFRED (FRED) ULRICH On August 15, 2009, with his family by his side, at the age of 78, Dad peacefully began his new life in heaven. He is survived by his three children: Monica and husband Geoff Kyle and grandchildren Alex and Dylan; Evelyn and husband Gary Thiessen and grandchildren, Nicholas and Victoria; and Edwin and wife Scarlette Ulrich and grandchildren Erika and Bennett. Manfred is also survived by four brothers as well as a loving extended family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 39 years, Ingrid, in 1996. In 1953 Manfred immigrated to Canada from Germany with his family. He married the love of his life, Ingrid, in 1956. They shared many wonderful years raising their family and creating memories that we will always cherish. Manfred had a long career as a certified carpenter, most notably with Engineered Homes as a Construction Manager. He was widely admired by many for his integrity and work ethic. He retired in 1996 as a building inspector for the City of Winnipeg. All of his children benefited from his construction abilities and willingness to always lend a helping hand as long as they never, ever, painted over the wood! Some of his favourite times were spent at Long Lake. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with family. Dad achieved one of his life long dreams in 1980 when he obtained his private pilot's license. All the decisions that Dad made were based on his faith in Christ, and his love for his family. A celebration of Dad's life will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Avenue, with Pastor Mark Woods from Manfred's home church of Rowandale Baptist, officiating. Interment to follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. Viewing on Wednesday, August 19, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Nutimik, in care of 5 Amelia Crescent, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2K 3X8.
