HECTOR EMILE FLEURY Hector was born March 31, 1929, the youngest in a family of four children to Frances and Emma Fleury of Marquette, MB. In 1951 he married Dorothy Olson from Woodlands and bought land near her parents' farm where he farmed for 17 years. They had three sons Dale, Darwin and Garth. Dad also worked off the farm for many years doing a variety of carpentry jobs. He went to work for Comstock and spent many years traveling to various job sites in northern Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Labrador. He sold the farm in Woodlands and moved to Stonewall in 1968 where he later took a job with the Town of Stonewall until his retirement in 1985. Dad was a handyman and there were no carpentry or mechanical jobs he couldn't master. Upon his retirement, he purchased a Grey Goose bus, which he then converted to a motor home. He and Dorothy became snowbirds for many years, spending winters in Texas and California with the numerous friends they made in their travels. Summers would find the motor coach parked at Darwin's farm in Woodlands and Dad busy riding the tractor discing or haying for Darwin; doing carpentry projects for all the boys and their families; or playing cards in the midst of a circle of motor coach friends come to visit. And of course, Pa usually had one or two grandkids underfoot helping him as he worked. Mum and Dad moved to Selkirk after Dad's health conditions made it difficult to travel to the States. They then settled back in Stonewall where Mum still resides. Dad was predeceased by his oldest son Dale in 2003. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Dorothy, his two sons Darwin (Debbie) and Garth (Donna), and six grandchildren, Janelle (Albert) Lapierre, Terry (Natalie) Fleury, Matthew, Lindsay and Kaitlyn Fleury, and Derrick Fleury. Honorary pallbearers are his three grandsons Matthew, Terry and Derrick and his three nephews Carl, Mark and Roger Fleury. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall. According to Dad's wishes, the service will conclude at the chapel. There will be a private family burial following the service. The family would like to thank the staff at the Betel Care Home in Selkirk for their care and compassion during these last five months. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
