KENNETH CLARK PIRT Predeceased by his wife Betty, Ken departed this life on August 17, 2009, at the age of 81 years. Left to remember his love and pride of family are their children: Deb (Bryan) Williams, Barb (Tim) Horodyski, Dave (Bonny), and Bev (Jeff) Gushulak; grandchildren Rob (Dawna), Chris (Tyler), Julie and Aaron; great-grandchildren Brooke and Taylor. Ken was also predeceased by his mother Jackie (nee Clark), father Arthur Pirt, and step-father Bert Horn. Dad was blessed to have our step-mother Ruth Ullyot accept his proposal of marriage, to be together for their remaining years, and also to have Susan Eastveld and Margaret Rempel and their extended families join our family. Ken was born in Winnipeg, September 12, 1927, and raised and educated in Carman. A Second World War and Korean War veteran, Ken served 37 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, and 11 years with the Federal Public Service, before retiring in Portage la Prairie. He returned to Carman in 2004 to be with Ruth. A long time member and supporter of the ideals of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ken held numerous positions with Carman Branch # 18, most recently serving as past president. Ken was a loving and caring individual, always putting others needs before his own; he will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Carman Memorial Hospital for your care and compassion. You embraced not only our Dad, but our entire family. A private interment of remains will be conducted by Ken's Carman Legion Branch # 18 comrades. A funeral service will be held at the Grace St. John's Church (80 2nd St. SW, Carman, MB) at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21. Following the service, refreshments will be served at the Carman Legion Auxiliary hall. If desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation to your choice of charity would be appreciated. Doyle's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. (www.doyleschapels.com)

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Mr. KC Pirt was a wonderful friend to my dad, Joe Yarmola and to me. Mr. Pirt was a mentor. Before I got my drivers license, he drove Dave and myself to play hockey in Trenton and he called me "Bobby" because I was an awesome defenceman (Ha, Ha)....but he always boosted my ego. He and Dave built a 3-point hydro and left it with me when they moved from Carrying Place to Portage. Ken knew my dad loved Mitchell fishing reels and brought one from Germany (I think it was a 330) to my dad as a gift...I have this reel in my possession (now that dad is gone)....and think of Ken when I see it. Ken helped my dad so very much at dad's gas station....no one can imagine how much....and how dad valued his friendship. I was unable to attend Ken's funeral to pay the respects of our family (both Mom and Dad had predeceased Ken) and I've always regretted that BUT, today I googled Ken and was compulsed to finally write something in this forum. Thank you for this opportunity. Very respectfully, Paul Yarmola. - Posted by: Paul Yarmola (GOOD Friend) on: Feb 15, 2013
