Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAURICE HECTOR VERBRUGGE It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Maurice Hector Verbrugge, aged 85 years, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, on August 16, 2009 at Riverview Health Centre. Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Cecilia Mae; children, Dave (Laura Diane), Leona (Peter) and Glen (Linda); grandchildren, Karen (Brett), Ryan (Donna), Amanda, Sean, Charlene, Michael, and Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Angela and Joshua, as well as his sister, Louise (Bill) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Augusta Verbrugge, sisters Mary, Alice, Alma, and brothers Fred, George, and Lorne. Dad was born on July 18, 1924 in Meyronne, Saskatchewan, where he spent his childhood helping on the farm to raise and breed thoroughbred Belgian horses, cattle, and work the land in grain. A love of agriculture led to his lifelong career in the seed business, working for McCabe Grain and then Northrup-King Seeds as a District Manager. He enjoyed being on the road and developed exemplary customer relationships, many of which became lifelong friendships. Dad loved to play cards, pool, shuffleboard, and darts as a member of the Belgian Club. His love of horses led him on numerous weekends to Assiniboia Downs, where he wholeheartedly enjoyed betting on the horses. He also enjoyed an occasional visit to the casino. Outdoor activities included golf and fishing, but he was especially proud of his garden and flowers. One of his passions was playing musical instruments, including the piano, organ and violin, having played with a band at dances and also for personal enjoyment. Another was his love of new cars. He was extremely dedicated to his work, his hobbies, and especially to his family. Always present was his quick sense of humour, even in his last moments. He displayed extraordinary strength and courage throughout his life as well as with his battle with cancer. Dad touched many lives and will be truly missed. Mum and the children would like to thank the doctors and nurses who provided care throughout his illness, especially the doctors, nurses, and staff in the Palliative Care unit at Riverview. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment to follow. Rest in peace, Dad. Until we meet again.
