DOREEN VELMA YURKOWSKI Peacefully, Doreen Yurkowski (nee Triol) passed away on August 16, 2009 in the presence of her husband Michael, at Gimli hospital. Remaining to forever cherish Doreen's memory are her husband Michael; her children and grandchildren Cathleen and Greg Spencer (Jessica and Sean), Patric Yurkowski and Susan Lazar (Aaron), Carol and Joseph Anania (Antonio, Maria, Joseph Jr., and Teresa); her sisters Mary, Clara, and Irene, her brother Vern; brothers and sisters in-law, as well as her many other relatives and friends. Doreen was predeceased by her parents, Sarah Triol (nee Trippel) and Henry Triol, her sisters, Florence and Lorna, and her brother Wilfred. Doreen was born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan on August 27, 1932, where she spent her childhood and received her education. She worked at Rosthern hospital as a nurse's aid, and then in 1953 moved to Saskatoon where she continued her career at the University of Saskatchewan hospital. In 1954 she was introduced to Michael, and on June 22, 1957 they were married at St. Joseph's Church in Saskatoon. Doreen embarked on a new career as a homemaker. Together with her family she enjoyed many parts of Canada including Saskatoon, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Grande-Riviere, Dartmouth, Guelph, Winnipeg, and Gimli. She especially loved accompanying Michael to scientific meetings in different parts of the world such as Finland, Germany, France, Scotland, England, and throughout Canada and the US. Doreen loved her family and was dedicated to it. She loved classical music and especially opera, and was partial to a good mystery story. She participated in many activities with the church, including teaching Sunday school, membership in the Catholic Women's league, and singing with the church choirs. Prayers will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the Roman Catholic Parish of Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., also in the church, with Rev. Fr. Carl Tarnopolski, V.G., presiding. Interment will follow later that afternoon in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Winnipeg Beach, MB. The pallbearers will be Joseph Anania, Antonio Anania, Joseph Anania Jr., Greg Spencer, Sean Spencer, and Loren Yurkowski. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the League for Life or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
