AMY ROBERTA HEWKO (MURRAY)
Born: Mar 01, 1922
Date of Passing: Aug 17, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAMY ROBERTA HEWKO (nee MURRAY) March 1, 1922 - August 17, 2009 On Monday, August 17, 2009 our happy, upbeat 87 year old mom, Amy, went to be with the Lord, the result of a sudden stroke. True to her spunk and go getter nature she passed away quickly. Mom always referred to herself as a tom boy . Following in her dad's footsteps she inherited a love for sports. Meadowvale District was glad to have her on their softball and hockey teams. Later in life curling became her favourite. The shelves in her den hold trophies from both the Springfield and Transcona Teachers Leagues. We her kids knew we were her world, but when the Bombers were down three or the World Championship Curling was on, our phone calls were put on hold. Mom probably depicted the Proverbs 31 woman better than anyone we knew. Resourceful, organized and get the job done , that was Mom. As children we always had hand-stitched clothing, knitted garments, and well patched jeans. Her home displayed embroidery, quilting and her artistic bent for decorating. Outdoors, that green thumb of hers showed up in our farmyard as well as most recently with her prize violets on the coffee table in her condo. After retirement her teaching skills became replaced with a passion for scrapbooking. She made each of us albums that depicted our family heritage and memories in a beautiful way, and even held classes to teach others this art. Mom stayed current and was a lifelong learner. Mom always kept herself busy. Sudukos and crossword puzzles were a fun pastime for her but nothing like the card games. Who knew the rules better than Mom? Left open on her breakfast table Monday morning was her Bible, journal and daily devotional. Her relationship with the Lord proved to be true in the strength and faith she exuded in difficult situations. Mom was the hub of our family. She always prayed for our many problems and strongly supported us in all of our decisions. Our best cheerleader was she! We are comforted knowing that Mom is now in Heaven with her son Darrel, her parents, her brothers Nelson and Malcolm and her husband John. She is survived by her sister Rita Glowa and sisters-in-law, Helen Murray and Jean Hewko. We love you Mom (Grandma). Oh how we'll miss you! Judy (Dennis), Donna, Barry (Susan), Murray (Karen) and all your grandchildren. We found Mom's knitting needles by her favourite chair and a boxful of knitted squares, mitts and scarves ready for the homeless. Since this was her heart we thought it would please her that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Springs Inner City, 595 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R2J 3X2 . A celebration of Amy's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Springs Church, 595 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba.
