JOHN CHESIN SR. Sadly we announce the passing of our dear Dad peacefully in his 92nd year at Grace General Hospital in the afternoon of Tuesday August 18, 2009. Dad was born in Winnipeg on March 5, 1918 and lived most of his younger life in Brooklands. Our family later resided in Weston and St. James. He is survived by his three children, Ray, Gail, and John Jr. His beloved wife, Tina, passed away on April 2, 2004. His mother, Anastasia, and father, Dymtro, predeceased him as well as his brother, Mike, and sister, Jennie. In 1940, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He served in the RCAF Motor Transport and was honorably released in 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal (1939-1945). In the late 1940's, he worked for McDonald Aircraft. In 1952, Dad became employed with Trans-Canada Airlines (Defence Contract) and later Air Canada, where he attained the status of Certified Aeronautical Engineer and completed 35 years of service. He loved to reminisce about his experiences at Air Canada. On April 10, 1941, Dad married Tina Hergesheimer. He was active, ambitious, and valued family life. In his time, he designed and built three homes of which he was very proud, the latest in St. James. In his life, he travelled extensively in Canada, the USA, Barbados, and Europe. He especially enjoyed frequent camping and fishing trips with our Mom and John Jr. He had a soft spot in his heart for our long-haired Dachsunds, Rudy and Billy. Our Dad reached the wonderful age of 91. We love you and will miss you, Dad. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Chad's Anglican Church, 3390 Portage Avenue at Rouge Road, Assiniboia. Cremation has taken place; interment at a later date.
