JACK (JOHN) MAY The fifth of nine children, Jack was born in Winnipeg on May 14, 1927. Except for nine years working in Dauphin and one in Thunder Bay, he spent his whole life here. Because of his father's poor health from being gassed in the First World War and his mother's abandonment of the family, Jack was on his own from the age of 15. At that time he began working for CN, where he continued until his retirement as an employee relations officer when he was 58. Jack is survived by his loving wife Ricky (Roberta) of 58 years and their three loving sons: Kelly of Saskatoon, Patrick of Vancouver and Terry of Winnipeg, and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Amy, Russell, Frances, Alice and Charlotte. Jack will be remembered for his sense of humour, his sociability, his strong work ethic, and his outstanding ability at any sport he tried. Before marriage he played hockey in a semi-pro league, but after he had a family he took up curling and golf. In his golfing days, Jack achieved three holes in one and had a handicap of seven. With his health in decline because of dementia, Jack entered a personal care home when he was 75. He recently developed pneumonia and passed away there on August 17, 2009. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at Canad Inns at 1824 Pembina Hwy. on August 29 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends and family who choose may make a donation in Jack's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
