NELLIE P. ABEL
Born: May 21, 1921
Date of Passing: Aug 05, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNELLIE P. ABEL (nee WOODS) May 12, 1921 - August 5, 2009 Peacefully, surrounded by family, Nellie passed away at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Bill and by her siblings Eddie, Margaret, Joyce and Jimmy. Born to Frank and Ellen Woods in Winnipeg's North End, Nellie was a familiar face around Winnipeg, especially at Polo Park and on Transit Tom which she rode loyally for years. Nellie made lasting friendships with neighbors, classmates and work colleagues and became known as Auntie Nellie to many of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was at her happiest during the holidays, sending out Christmas and Chanukah greetings to friends and family all over the world. She loved co-hosting the annual family Christmas gathering with her sister Margaret. Nellie made it a purpose in her life to be a regular visitor to elderly friends, especially those who could not get out or who did not have family living in Winnipeg. Besides her many friends, Nellie leaves to mourn her passing, her sister-in-law Betty Woods, her nieces and nephews, Linda Lenius (Tom), Beverley Bolianaz (Mario), Derek Woods (Tina), Blair Woods (Lana), Jennifer Merrick (Jeff) and their families. A private memorial has taken place. If desired, a donation in Nellie's memory can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or to a charity of their choice. The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to the kind and loving staff at Kildonan Personal Care Centre.

"Auntie Nellie" was our chosen aunt as she was with many others. She was a very loved and respected part of our family. Over the last few years we didn't know where to send her our usual notes and Christmas greetings but she was always in our thoughts and prayers. She will be missed by our family and our wish is that she Rests in Peace and know she was loved. She was one terrific lady.
