Date of Passing: Feb 20, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDGAR ELDEN FILLION With his wife (best friend and love of his life) Betty and family by his side, Edgar passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at the Victoria Hospital. It was a comfort to have all of the family there when he was reunited once again with his father, mother, sister, brother, mother and father-in-law. Edgar was a caring, loving, gentle soul who was always there for his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, godchildren and co-workers. Whether it was to fix a lawnmower, share his extensive knowledge on any question/topic, look over your new house or car before you bought it, it had to pass Edgar's inspection, or fix a light fixture, he was there for you whenever you asked him. No request was too big to handle; until his last few years; due only to his health not his ongoing drive. You could trust that Edgar would always help and get it done with 110% effort and knowledge. When love and skill work together expect a masterpiece. Not only did Edgar enjoy being a handyman/helper but he enjoyed watching curling, and most sports. His interest started when he was young, playing hockey and curling and continued when his son, Mark started playing hockey as a goalie, he could not have been more proud. He was a proud father/grandfather to his children, Mark (Donna) and Deborah (Don) and grandchildren (Nicole, Shawna, Lynsey), his eyes lit up every time he was with them. We cannot forget about the joy and warmth his extended family, (neighbours) Hank, Lorraine, Bruce, Cathy, Kenneth, Brian, Donna and their husbands and wives brought to his life. Dad was so blessed to have the friendship and love of them and so many other friends. Not only were his family and friends number one in his life but his dedication to his job was very important to him. Edgar started working for the City of Winnipeg in his teens. He retired after 37 years with the City as a Regional Street Inspector. To relax on the weekend he would enjoy playing his harmonica, or guitar or just listen to some old time fiddle music. He will be sadly missed by brothers Alfred Fillion (Shirley), sister Shirley Lewco (George), sister-in-law Connie Fillion, brother-in-law Stan Bartmanovich and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Dr. Permack for his ongoing care and the Victoria Hospital ICU staff. Funeral mass will be held at St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy. on Wednesday, August 26 at 10:30 a.m., with visitation one half hour prior to service time. If so desired donations may be made in Edgar's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street., Suite 200, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6.
