Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN EDWARD MANKEWICZ Peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, John passed away on August 17, 2009 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Anne, his daughters Nicole (Fred) Nicholson and Cathy (Denis) Robidoux and his grandsons: Matthew, Jared, Evan, and Daniel. John will be sadly missed by his niece Shirley Thomas and her family, and nephew Norman LePoder. John was predeceased by his daughter Teresa, his parents Samuel Mankewicz and Julia Yawny, and step-father Peter Yawny, his sister and brother-in-law Doris and Ray LePoder. John was born in Winnipeg on April 26, 1929. John was employed at Canada Cement for 41 years. As a young man John played baseball and hockey. In later years he took up curling and this sport brought him his greatest moment. On November 9, 1975, John skipped his rink to an eight-ender. Anne and family wish to express their sincere appreciation for the care John received while he lived at the Convalescent Home. Special thanks to the 2nd floor staff for their compassion and support during John's final days; words cannot express the gratitude we feel. A celebration of John's life will be held on Tuesday, August 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Fr. Barry Schoonbaert will officiate. Interment will follow. If so desired, donations in John's name may be made to the St. Boniface Research Foundation, Aging Research Department, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R2J 9Z9.
