NELLIE LATERVEER (nee Ruitenbeek) July 4, 1933 - August 20, 2009 With great sadness, the family announces the peaceful passing of Nellie Laterveer on August 20, 2009 at 76 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband William on April 12, 1992. She was also predeceased by her parents, Aart and Dirkje and her siblings, Albertus, Willem (Bill) and Dorothea. Mom will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her children, Diana (Blair), Cynthia (Darren) and Jonathan (Tanya); her grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian), Darren, Jeremy (Dana), Justin, William and Tatyana and also her great-granddaughter Faith. She also leaves her brothers and sisters, Aart, Adriaan, Hemmie, Nancy, Hilda and numerous nieces and nephews. She was born in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands on July 4, 1933, the eldest of nine children. She and her family immigrated to Canada on May 7, 1953. She met William in Brandon, MB and they were married on May 20, 1956. Nellie was a longtime resident of St. James, living in the same house since 1977. The family would like to send a special thank you to Addie, her longtime neighbour and true friend, who watched over Mom for several years after Dad's passing. She had recently moved to The Westhaven on Portage Avenue, where she made many new friends. Oma was a gentle, kind, loving and generous soul who also had a fabulous sense of humour. She was actively involved in raising all six of her grandchildren. She was an extraordinary homemaker and also worked outside the home for several years as a cook at Oakview Place and Golden West Centennial Lodge. Her love, support and guidance has enriched our lives greatly. We will miss you so very much Mom. Funeral service and reception to be held at the Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch St., Winnipeg, MB at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Nellie to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. The Love of a Mother A Mother's love is something that no one can explain, It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain. It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may For nothing can destroy it or take that love away. It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking. It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns, And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems. It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation, And it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation. A many splendor miracle man cannot understand And another wondrous evidence of God's tender guiding hand. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
