ALICE HENRY (nee KENDEL) On August 22, 2009, Alice Henry passed away at the age 88 years. She is survived by her daughter Sharyn (Richard) Wood, grandchildren Monica (Tom) Wood, Jennifer (Larry) Solomon and great-grandchildren Hunter, Nathan and Lily and by her sisters Kay (Ken) Cyr, Eleanor Metzger, Esther Mayan and Linda (Andy) Tansowny. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Lawrence Page Henry (1976) and by her siblings Rudy, Ronnie, Fred, Ollie, Chuck and Louise (Johnson). Alice was born June 27, 1921 in MacNutt, SK, the fifth of eleven children. She married Lawrence on October 14, 1942 and together they built a home in Eddystone, MB where she lived most of her life. At the age of 56, she began her career with Northern Affairs as Assistant Fire Commissioner and travelled central and northern Manitoba teaching fire safety. She very much enjoyed her job and loved the opportunity to meet new people, retiring in 1986. Alice loved to dance and sing, never passing up an opportunity to do either. Her pastimes included the accordion, curling, baseball, travelling, and playing cards. She loved her grandchildren and time they spent at grandma's house eating home-made popsicles, riding around on her lawn tractor or playing on the tire swing in her backyard. In 2002, for health reasons, Alice moved to Gimli, Manitoba and in 2004 she moved to Tudor House personal care home in Selkirk, MB. The family wishes to thank the staff at Tudor House. The memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave, Winnipeg, across from Brookside Cemetery. Interment in Ste. Rose du Lac cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. NEIL BARDAL INC. 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
