DORA ELISABETH KENDEL (nee Wagenaar) Courageously, on Monday, August 24, 2009 at Seven Oaks Hospital Dora passed away at the age of 88 years with her family at her side. She was our beloved Oma and mother-in-law and will be sadly missed. Dora was born in Leiden, Holland, on May 10, 1921. At the end of the Second World War she met Harold, a Canadian soldier. Despite only knowing him for a brief time before he returned to Canada, they maintained contact through letters for two years before she accepted his proposal. Together they spent many happy years and celebrated their 53rd anniversary on May 17, 2000. She loved her family and enjoyed sharing the fascinating stories and adventures of her life. She often said, I should write a book . Her love for the sea was rekindled at Winnipeg Beach where she especially enjoyed having everyone together each summer. She will be remembered most for her zest for life and her unparalleled sense of humour... she always made us laugh. Dora was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2000 and most recently her son Robert in February of this year, as well as her mother Susan, father Jan, her brother Pieter and sister Suzanna. Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her grandchildren Tamara, Chad and Amber and daughter-in-law Lynn. Our family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses of Seven Oaks General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care over the past six months.
